DataNett Trinidad and Tobago

Avalon/Community Systems Foundation supported the Central Statistics Office (CSO) of Trinidad and Tobago with the technical support of UNICEF Eastern Caribbean to design and develop the DataNeTT portal, initially used as a launchpad for the digital launch of the MICS 6 findings.

For the digital launch of a MICS 6 report, Avalon developed a Data NeTT portal composed of a suite of tools, namely an indicator based data warehouse, a Data Visualizer, a MICS Dashboard and a mobile app. The idea was to have a data heavy MICS launchpad for the much awaited findings essentially after the pandemic. The data warehouse focused on disparities such as age, gender, wealth quintile, location among others. Furthermore, to better appreciate the behavior of key indicators, historical data was entered in the form of MICS 4 data.

CSO is a key data producer in Trinidad and Tobago who had no tool to disseminate data other than a website. A large obstacle was the inability to efficiently disseminate data as it all was in Excel files. After training sessions by Avalon/CSF technical experts, CSO is currently migrating their data from Excel to the Data NeTT database allowing for ease of data dissemination. The long term plan is now for the  CSO to go beyond the MICS data, to include all  sectors data and to leverage DFA tools to design data stories (dashboard) or simply disseminate it through the mobile app.
